Step deck
The step deck, also called a drop deck, drops the main deck below a flatbed. That is often what saves you a height permit.
Also known as : drop deck, lowered deck trailer
The idea is simple: a short upper deck over the fifth wheel, then a step down to a lower deck running the rest of the trailer. A piece too tall to clear on a flatbed often clears on a step deck with no special permit.
It is the most requested equipment after the standard deck, and the one most often unavailable at peak season. Our network lets us find one when others have run out.
What we load on it
- Jobsite equipment on wheels or tracks
- Tanks and vessels
- Tall industrial machinery
- Pieces too tall for a flatbed

Not sure which trailer you need?
Give us the dimensions and weight of your piece. We will tell you which trailer fits, and whether a permit is required.

Other trailers
Flatbed 48’ and 53’
The reference trailer for steel, lumber and materials that load from the side or from above.
Double drop
A very low centre well for tall pieces that clear neither a flatbed nor a step deck.
RGN / lowboy
The front neck detaches and the trailer becomes a ramp: rolling machinery drives on from the front.
