Ontario and the 401 corridor

The Highway 401 corridor is the backbone of road transport in Canada, and it is our busiest area. It links eastern fabrication shops to the Greater Toronto Area and southwestern Ontario.

What runs into Ontario: structural steel and sheet metal, machinery, jobsite equipment and wood products. What comes back: steel, machinery and industrial parts out of Hamilton, Mississauga and southwestern Ontario. That two-way traffic is what keeps pricing competitive on this corridor.

Crossing a provincial line changes the rules. Weight and dimension limits are not identical from one province to the next, and a load that is perfectly legal in Quebec may require a permit in Ontario. For anything oversize we pull a permit for each province crossed and adjust the routing, not just the price.

The 401 has its own logic: dense traffic around the GTA, time-of-day restrictions in places, and spaced-out service areas that shape the driver’s hours of service. We build the mandatory stops into the schedule we quote, which avoids the classic gap between what the salesperson promised and what the driver can actually do.
